Tools you should know about

Over the years I have collected and used a number of tools that no one seems to talk about as much as they should. Most of these are for techy people but they may be just what you are looking for!

Webdesign Placeholder Tool

How did it take so long to find this!!! This (well THESE) services allow you to fill your in-progress webpage with actual photos so you can get an idea of how the site will look with content rather than just colored squares. You can also designate size in pixels, blur, greyscale, random images and more! For example the image below is embeded as "https://picsum.photos/680/200?random=1&blur=2" so it is 680px by 200, should be random each time you see it, and has a light blur. I have not added any file to my website for you to see this just some code! There are a few other options as well but these were the first I found! Enjoy!.

Ninite

Select form a number of popular computer programs, hit go, come back later and they are all installed. Only downside is you can't choose a directory which stops me from using it. Otherwise it is extremely well made and useful.

portableapps.com

From their site: "a full-featured portable software system that lets you build your own custom portable app suite for use in your synced cloud folder, on your local PC, or on a portable USB drive." Think Ninite but on steroids and portable.

VLC Media Player

From their site: "free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files, and various streaming protocols." Plays everything and does it very well.

Notepad++

Open Source Notepad super upgrade. Small size and less resource heavy. One of the first things I download on a fresh PC

Geek Uninstaller

My new prefered program uninstaller (used to run Revo). Finds and uses a programs built in uninstaller then searches for any extra files left behind.

Tixati

Free, Ad-less, P2P (Torrent) Client. Best in its class as far as I'm concerned.

netboot.xyz

Allows you to boot a number of OSs from a USB Drive for Troubleshooting or just messing around on your mom's old PC.

Ventoy

Similar to netboot but may fit different needs. Check both out!

AutoHotKey

From their site: "AutoHotkey is a free, open-source scripting language for Windows that allows users to easily create small to complex scripts for all kinds of tasks such as: form fillers, auto-clicking, macros, etc." Also you can use it to do some pretty intense mutiboxing in WoW.

Adblocking Suite

I have all three of these installed before I hit the web. THEY CAN AND WILL BREAK SOME SITES FUNCTIONALITY! My fix for this is not allowing them to run in incognito windows or use another secondary browser if you are running into issues.
